It's been a long time coming...

Well, it is the lead up week to my first race of the season and I am not sure what to expect. This is often the case for my cycling events as I am still learning the ropes and very green behind the ears with these strategic races.

There are a number of factors out there that would suggest it is going to be a tough day. I have kept a strong run schedule of late as I am registered for Sporting Life 10k on May 13th. I have not been out with the group as much as I would have liked due to work and family commitments. There are a lot of strong riders in M3 at Good Friday that technically should be in M2 or M1 but do not have the points to move up.

I could name off many more reasons but I am not going to look for any excuses come race day. I am going to use my ability to hurt to keep up with my teammates and hope to give them a spark when the call comes for a break or a bridge. The sprint will then be in their hands as long as we work well together to set up a favourable finish. We have two solid M3 racers in our club (Phill and Richard) that will have a great opportunity to accumulate some points this weekend so I hope Dave, myself and the rest of the crew can lend a hand to get them to the line in a podium position.

Wish me luck!

Kinda weird isn't it, not knowing what to expect? Will we be leading the charge, putting the hurt on everyone else? Or hanging on for dear life? One thing for sure, I want to leave it all out on the course so let's go for it!

We offer sport wear also for the audience of the stadium, those people are not playing in the ground but they play their part in the games by encouraging their teams.

Richard,

The tank will be emptied out there for sure.

In duathlon, I know the paces per element I will be trying to hit. I study them leading up to the race, visualize them the night before and know that anyone ahead will require a constant, solo effort to catch. They will not come back to save up for sprint or have teammates helping them to the line.

In cycling, you have to go with the flow cause if you try to do it solo, you are a sitting duck.

Totally different strategy for sure...

Should be fun, just hope the the morning temps are not too chilly!

Talk soon,
Larry

Good on ya Larry! I've allways been tempted to enter the road racing game. Just never had the right opportunity. Now things are just too busy. Some day . . . .

Thanks Syd! Something I should have done when I was much younger and more carefree. My cautious ways tend to lead to wasted energy bursts trying to get back on the last wheel of the pack. I usually crumble from too many of these efforts well before the finish line. ha ha

Good luck Larry (and Richard!). Be safe out there, but go hard! Look forward to hearing about it. Should be fun!

Thanks Luke! Crossing my fingers for a clean race and no close calls. Race report will be up asap.

Have a great long weekend!
